Bloodhounds Season 2 Episode 5 begins in the aftermath of the previous episode's attack, with Gang-yong being rushed to the hospital. Doctors discover that he has suffered a hairline fracture to his skull, leaving Gun-woo deeply shaken by what has happened. News of the incident also reaches Hong Min-beom, who realizes that the people around Gun-woo are being attacked one after another because of Baek-jeong's war against them. While Gang-yong remains under medical observation, Woo-jin, Gwang-mu, and Woo-jeong continue questioning Gi-na, the woman who drugged Min-beom. At first she refuses to cooperate, but Woo-jeong approaches her calmly and eventually convinces her to reveal the truth. Gi-na admits that Lee Man-bae hired her to drug Min-beom and explains that she has known Man-bae for several years. She also gives them the drug used in the attack and agrees to help them arrange a meeting with Man-bae. Woo-jin takes Gi-na to the hotel so she can safely contact Man-bae. The team hopes that Gi-na can lead them directly to the person responsible for Min-beom's poisoning and eventually provide evidence connecting the operation to Baek-jeong. However, they are aware that Man-bae is extremely cautious and may realize that Gi-na is working with them. At the hospital, Min-beom meets his uncle, Director Kang of the National Intelligence Service. Furious about what happened to him, Min-beom asks his uncle for help dealing with Baek-jeong's organization. He specifically wants an NIS operative capable of eliminating the person responsible for drugging him. Director Kang understands how dangerous the situation has become but warns Min-beom that taking matters into his own hands could create an even bigger problem. Back at the hotel, Gun-woo is overwhelmed by guilt. He believes that Min-beom, Woo-jin, Gwang-mu, and Gang-yong have all been hurt because of him. Woo-jin refuses to let him carry the blame alone. He reminds Gun-woo that the people helping him are doing so because they consider him family, not because they feel obligated to protect him. Woo-jin tells him that their strength comes from standing together rather than allowing Baek-jeong to isolate them. Meanwhile, Baek-jeong prepares for the next stage of his plan. He has assembled a list of international fighters for an upcoming IKFC event and intends to use Gun-woo as the centerpiece of the fight. Tae-yeong discovers that the planned match will not be a normal bout. Gun-woo will have to fight multiple opponents one after another until only one fighter remains. The unusual format is designed specifically for Gun-woo. Baek-jeong wants to exhaust him physically before confronting him personally. The fight will also be broadcast through IKFC's underground network, allowing international gamblers to place huge bets on the outcome. Baek-jeong expects Gun-woo's popularity to generate enormous profits while simultaneously demonstrating that even a professional boxer can be broken by his organization. Gang-yong refuses to remain in the hospital and leaves against medical advice. He travels to the hotel to join the group and help organize their response. Tae-yeong reveals that the hotel receptionist may have leaked information about their location, meaning that Baek-jeong could already know where they are hiding. Gang-yong divides the group into separate missions. Woo-jeong will work with him to locate and capture Lee Man-bae. Woo-jin and Gwang-mu are instructed to search for Sergeant Yun Tae-geom, while Gun-woo is ordered to remain at the hotel and avoid exposing himself. Everyone understands that Gun-woo is Baek-jeong's primary target. But Baek-jeong sends Gun-woo a location for the IKFC fight. The message makes it clear that Baek-jeong expects him to appear. Gun-woo realizes that refusing to go could put even more people at risk, especially his mother. He quietly prepares himself for the fight without telling the others. Gi-na meanwhile waits at a café for Man-bae. Woo-jeong and the police carefully monitor the area, hoping that Man-bae will appear. But Man-bae notices that Gi-na is being watched. Rather than approach her himself, he sends a motorcycle rider to eliminate her. As Gi-na leaves the café, the attacker approaches on the motorcycle and slashes her throat. Gi-na collapses before the police can reach her. Her death destroys the team's chance of questioning her further and confirms just how ruthless Baek-jeong's organization is. Man-bae has once again eliminated a witness before she can reveal everything she knows. At the hotel, Gun-woo trains alone. He knows that the upcoming fight could be a trap, but he has already made his decision. He sneaks away without informing the security team and travels to the location Baek-jeong provided. By the time Woo-jin and the others realize that he has disappeared, Gun-woo is already on his way to the underground arena. The IKFC event is packed with international fighters and wealthy gamblers. Baek-jeong watches from the side while enormous amounts of money are placed on the matches. Gun-woo enters the arena and immediately realizes that the event has been designed around him. Before the fight begins, Baek-jeong gives Gun-woo one final warning. He threatens Gun-woo's mother and makes it clear that if Gun-woo deliberately loses or refuses to fight seriously, the people he loves will pay the price. Gun-woo has no choice but to enter the ring. The first opponent attacks aggressively, but Gun-woo remains calm and uses his professional boxing experience to control the fight. He defeats the first fighter and is immediately forced to face another opponent without enough time to recover. Gun-woo defeats the second fighter as well. Instead of turning against him, however, the crowd begins cheering for him. The underground audience is impressed by his courage and skill, and Gun-woo unexpectedly becomes the most popular fighter in the arena. Baek-jeong becomes furious. The fight was supposed to demonstrate his power, but Gun-woo's performance is turning him into a hero for the very audience Baek-jeong controls. Baek-jeong decides that he will personally destroy Gun-woo. He enters the ring and attacks Gun-woo himself. The fight is brutally one-sided at first. Baek-jeong is stronger and more experienced in this kind of violent combat, while Gun-woo has already fought multiple opponents. Baek-jeong repeatedly strikes Gun-woo and deliberately targets his body and face. Gun-woo refuses to surrender. Even as he is badly beaten, he continues trying to fight back. The crowd becomes increasingly uncomfortable watching Baek-jeong attack a fighter who has already defeated several opponents. Gun-woo's determination only increases the audience's support for him. At the hotel, Tae-yeong discovers that Gun-woo has disappeared and begins tracking the underground livestream. She realizes that he is at the IKFC arena. She immediately alerts Woo-jeong and the others, who race toward the location. Gang-yong and Woo-jeong arrive at the area and use the livestream to identify the arena. They contact the police and send officers to shut down the illegal fight. Baek-jeong's men notice the approaching authorities and begin evacuating the venue. Allen informs Sergeant Yun and Man-bae that the police are closing in. The criminals quickly begin clearing the arena, destroying evidence and moving gamblers and fighters out through hidden exits. Sergeant Yun forces Baek-jeong to stop the fight before the police can arrive. Gun-woo is left badly injured after Baek-jeong's attack. He is taken to the hospital, where he eventually wakes up and apologizes to Woo-jin for going to the fight without telling anyone. Woo-jin does not blame him. Instead, he reminds Gun-woo that they can still defeat Baek-jeong if they work together. The authorities respond aggressively to the illegal fight. Gang-yong orders the police to issue a wanted alert for Baek-jeong and begin searching for everyone connected to IKFC. The evidence gathered from the arena gives them a stronger basis for pursuing the organization. Baek-jeong's problems grow even larger. An international investor who watched the fight approaches him with an offer to invest in IKFC. The investor is impressed by Gun-woo's popularity and suggests making him the public face of the organization. Baek-jeong rejects the proposal, refusing to accept that Gun-woo could become more valuable than his own authority. Man-bae then delivers even worse news. Baek-jeong is now officially wanted in South Korea. Man-bae urges him to leave the country before the police can arrest him. Baek-jeong refuses to run. Instead, he decides to escalate the war. Baek-jeong orders Man-bae to kidnap So-yeon. He knows that Gun-woo's mother remains his greatest emotional weakness and believes that taking her will force Gun-woo back into the ring for another fight. Episode 5 ends with Gun-woo recovering from his brutal encounter with Baek-jeong while the criminal organization prepares its next attack. Gun-woo has proven that he can win the support of the underground crowd, but Baek-jeong has responded by targeting the person Gun-woo loves most. The battle is now moving toward a final confrontation in which Gun-woo will have to protect his mother while bringing down IKFC once and for all.
