When Xiaolu tells Nianqin about the decision, he is shocked and struggles to understand why his father would make such a sacrifice after their painful history. While out, Wuyan encounters a friend of her father and learns that her father has been hospitalised after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage. Alarmed, she rushes back to pack her belongings and prepare to return home. In her haste, she does not explain the situation to Nianqin. As she leaves, he misunderstands her sudden departure and fears that her parents are still unwilling to accept their relationship. The painful misunderstanding threatens to drive them apart just as both are beginning to think seriously about their future together.
