Sang Wuyan is excited about the possibility of bringing Su Nianqin home to meet her family. Nianqin's father is also delighted to hear that his son intends to bring his girlfriend home. However, their hopes for a happy future are interrupted when Wuyan unexpectedly learns that her own father has suffered a cerebral haemorrhage and has been hospitalised. She immediately decides to return to her hometown, leaving Nianqin confused and frightened by her sudden departure. At the same time, Yu Weilan visits Nianqin, hoping to repair their damaged relationship. Despite her efforts to speak honestly with him, he remains distant and cold. When Wuyan hurriedly returns to collect her belongings, she and Weilan briefly cross paths. Nianqin senses Wuyan's urgency and refuses to let her leave without an explanation. Their discussion quickly becomes an argument. Because he is afraid of losing her and still struggles with insecurity about his family and disability, he interprets her departure as a possible rejection. Wuyan insists that she must return to see her sick father, but their conversation ends in anger, and she leaves. Wuyan reaches the hospital in her hometown and is devastated to see her father recovering from brain surgery. His speech is impaired, and she feels guilty that she was not there when he became ill. She offers to stay and take care of him, but her mother tells her to go home and rest. The two women disagree over how best to care for him, exposing the strain that has developed between them over Wuyan's choices and relationship with Nianqin. Despite his condition, Wuyan's father is concerned about his daughter's happiness. He asks about her boyfriend and wants to know whether she truly loves Nianqin. Rather than judging Nianqin for his visual impairment or complicated family background, he tells Wuyan that he will support her decisions if she is sure of her feelings. His acceptance comforts her, even as the tension with her mother continues. Her father also hopes that she will build a good life and pursue her career without abandoning the people she loves. Meanwhile, Nianqin is struggling to understand why Wuyan left so abruptly. Yu Xiaolu confronts him about his attitude and explains that Wuyan's father really is ill; Wuyan has not invented an excuse to escape their relationship. Nianqin admits that he previously learned from Wuyan's mother that her family disapproved of him and that Wuyan had become estranged from them because of their relationship. Instead of discussing the issue honestly with Wuyan, he kept the information to himself and even proposed marriage. He now recognises that his own fears and selfishness have made an already difficult situation worse, but he does not know how to repair the damage. Wei Hao also travels to Wuyan's hometown to visit her father. His arrival is welcomed by Wuyan's mother, who has long viewed him as a suitable match for her daughter. She compares him favourably with Nianqin and questions why Wuyan's boyfriend has not come to support her during such a serious family crisis. Wuyan tries to defend Nianqin, explaining that travelling is difficult for him because of his visual impairment, but she cannot entirely suppress her disappointment that she has not heard from him. While Wuyan remains at the hospital, she continues working on a new radio programme proposal. Her father listens to her ideas and expresses enthusiasm for her professional future. Wuyan tries to balance her responsibilities to her family with her work, but her inability to reach Nianqin leaves her increasingly upset. She does not know that Nianqin's own family is facing an emergency. Nianqin's father suddenly deteriorates and is rushed into emergency care. Xiaolu brings Nianqin to the hospital, where he learns just how serious his father's condition has become. Although their relationship has been damaged by painful childhood experiences and years of resentment, the possibility of losing his father overwhelms him. Waiting helplessly as doctors attempt to save his father, Nianqin is confronted with feelings he has spent years trying to suppress. He becomes so distressed that he refuses to eat or drink and eventually collapses from exhaustion. Xiaolu contacts Wuyan and tells her that Nianqin has fainted. Wuyan is torn between staying with her recovering father and returning to the man she loves. Her father understands her distress and encourages her to go if Nianqin needs her. She tries to find transport, but she misses both the flight and the high-speed train. Unwilling to give up, she takes a long-distance bus and begins the overnight journey back to him. During this crisis, Weilan visits Nianqin again. When he regains consciousness, the two finally speak more openly about their shared past. Nianqin admits how frightened he was when he thought his father might die and begins to recognise the emotional burden he has carried for years. Weilan reassures him and encourages him to stop allowing old wounds to determine every relationship in his life. Their conversation helps them begin to resolve the resentment that has kept them apart. Weilan also encourages Nianqin to contact Wuyan and apologise for the hurtful things he said. Nianqin acknowledges that he was wrong to suggest that Wuyan's parents were using her father's illness to manipulate her. Yet he remains convinced that her family will never accept him and that his visual impairment makes him a burden. He struggles to believe that love alone can overcome those fears. Wuyan arrives at the hospital and overhears Nianqin expressing these doubts to Weilan. Hurt by his assumption that her family considers him a burden, she confronts him. She explains that her parents have never described him that way to her and that his insecurity is causing him to hurt the very people who want to stand beside him. She reminds him that she has her own worries and responsibilities, yet she has repeatedly tried to understand him and protect their relationship. Wuyan tells Nianqin that she once believed their love would help her accept his difficult temperament, but she cannot continue to bear the consequences whenever he allows his fears to control him. She is particularly hurt that she rushed back to comfort him after receiving news of his collapse, only to hear him speak as though their relationship is doomed. Unable to continue the argument, she walks away in tears. After Wuyan leaves, Nianqin realises that his words have pushed her away at the moment when they most need to trust one another. He pulls out his intravenous line and tries to follow her, but Xiaolu stops him because his father still requires urgent medical attention. A suitable liver donor has finally been found, and the family must remain at the hospital while doctors prepare for the next stage of treatment. Episode 14 ends with both couples facing difficult family circumstances. Wuyan's father begins recovering with her support, while Nianqin must confront the possibility of losing his own father and the consequences of letting insecurity damage his relationship. Their love remains strong, but this painful confrontation shows that they must learn to communicate honestly and trust one another if they hope to build a future together.
