📖 Episode Synopsis

Crush Episode 5 marks an important turning point in Sang Wuyan and Su Nianqin's relationship as Wuyan finally confirms that the reserved man she has been meeting at the special school is Yi Jin, the mysterious songwriter whose music she has admired for years. However, before this discovery brings her happiness, Wuyan faces an embarrassing professional setback that forces her to reconsider how she approaches her dream of becoming a broadcaster. At the radio station, Wuyan is assigned to interview Zheng Ye, a singer promoting his new album. During the interview, she asks why an original singer like Zheng Ye would choose to collaborate with the currently popular songwriter Yi Jin. Although she intends the question as a genuine inquiry about the music industry, Zheng Ye's team interprets it as an insult to his own talent. The incident is recorded and subsequently attracts attention online, with reports suggesting that Wuyan has questioned the reason behind the collaboration. Her careless wording creates an unnecessary controversy and puts additional pressure on her department's director. Wuyan is deeply troubled by the consequences of the interview. She worries not only about her reputation at work but also about the possibility that Yi Jin might misunderstand her intentions. Her admiration for the songwriter makes the situation particularly uncomfortable because she never intended to damage his professional relationships. When Nie Xi offers her an opportunity to return to the programme department, Wuyan declines. She decides to remain in the news department and learn from her mistake rather than avoid the responsibilities that come with journalism. The decision marks a small but meaningful step in her professional growth. Back at the special school, Wuyan hears piano music coming from the practice room where Nianqin is working. Unlike their earlier encounters, he does not immediately send her away. She discovers that he is preparing Braille sheet music for an upcoming piano-sharing event at a piano museum. The event is designed to introduce piano music to blind music enthusiasts, allowing them to engage with musical notation and performance in a more accessible way. Wuyan becomes interested in the event and sees it as another opportunity to understand Nianqin's world. During their conversation, Wuyan tells Nianqin that she likes the music of Frédéric Chopin because his compositions sound beautiful. Nianqin responds sceptically, suggesting that many people admire famous composers without taking the time to understand their music properly. His remark challenges Wuyan to learn more about classical music and demonstrate that her interest goes beyond a superficial appreciation. She begins researching Chopin and preparing herself for the event, partly because she wants to share a meaningful conversation with Nianqin. When the weekend arrives, Wuyan attends the piano museum's public event. Nianqin participates in the programme, demonstrating his musical abilities and sharing his knowledge of piano music with the audience. Wuyan unexpectedly gets selected to join him onstage for a piano performance. Excited but nervous, she tries to avoid drawing attention to herself, remaining quiet so that her voice does not reveal her identity. She believes she has managed to participate anonymously, but Nianqin recognises her despite her efforts to remain unnoticed. The performance gives Wuyan a chance to experience Nianqin's musical world from a new perspective. She sees how naturally he expresses himself through music and how much dedication he brings to his work. After the event, they talk about Yi Jin's songs. Wuyan mentions that one of her favourite compositions is "Lunxian". Nianqin responds with a sarcastic remark that leaves her wondering whether he is deliberately challenging her knowledge of the songwriter she admires. The conversation prompts Wuyan to reconsider the similarities between Yi Jin and Su Nianqin. She remembers the piano music she has heard at the school, his exceptional understanding of composition, and the details of their earlier conversations. She begins listening to Yi Jin's songs again, comparing what she knows about the mysterious musician with her experiences of Nianqin. The clues that once seemed like coincidences now fit together convincingly. After obtaining Nianqin's telephone number through Teacher Li, Wuyan hesitates before calling him. She is nervous about asking the question directly because she does not know how he will react. Eventually, she gathers the courage to telephone him and asks whether he is Yi Jin. Nianqin pauses, and his response fails to deny the truth. Wuyan finally becomes certain that the man she has been falling for is the same songwriter whose music has meant so much to her. Wuyan then explains why Yi Jin's music is important to her. During high school, she lost a close friend and experienced a painful period of grief. At a time when she struggled to cope with her emotions and felt that others could not understand her suffering, Yi Jin's songs helped her through the darkness. His music offered comfort when she needed it most, and she has carried that gratitude with her ever since. She tells Nianqin that she always hoped she might meet Yi Jin one day so that she could thank him personally for helping her survive such a difficult period. For Wuyan, this revelation changes the meaning of her feelings. Nianqin is no longer simply the intriguing man she encountered by chance; he is also the artist whose music accompanied her through one of the most painful experiences of her life. Her admiration becomes more intimate and emotional. Nianqin, meanwhile, learns that his compositions have touched someone deeply, reminding him that music can create connections even when the composer never meets the listener. When Yu Xiaolu learns that Wuyan knows Nianqin's identity, she becomes concerned about the possibility of the secret reaching the media. Yi Jin's identity has been kept private, and publicity could create complications for Nianqin's professional life. Xiaolu considers approaching Wuyan to ensure that she does not reveal what she has discovered. Nianqin stops her, showing that he trusts Wuyan and does not believe she will exploit his confidence. His decision demonstrates a growing willingness to let Wuyan into his private world. The following day, Wuyan receives another assignment at the radio station and is expected to work with Xu Qian. Although the two women have a painful history, Xu Qian notices that Wuyan has something urgent to attend to and offers to handle the basic work herself. Wuyan accepts the opportunity to leave early and hurries to the welfare institution to celebrate Xiaowei's birthday. When Wuyan arrives, she is surprised to discover that Nianqin has already come to celebrate with Xiaowei. Both adults have independently bought strawberry cakes for the child, creating a sweet moment of coincidence. Their shared concern for Xiaowei allows them to spend time together in a relaxed setting, away from professional pressures and their earlier disagreements. Xiaowei is delighted by the attention and makes a wish to visit an amusement park, giving the adults a glimpse of the simple happiness she hopes to experience. The birthday celebration reveals another side of Nianqin. Although he often appears cold and distant, his willingness to spend time with Xiaowei shows how much he cares about the children at the institution. Wuyan appreciates his kindness and feels increasingly comfortable around him. Their shared affection for Xiaowei becomes a natural connection between them, strengthening their growing bond without either needing to express their feelings directly. After the celebration, Wuyan asks Nianqin whether Xiaolu is his girlfriend. He tells her that she is not, relieving Wuyan's concern about the relationship between them. Nianqin then suggests that he should be allowed to ask Wuyan a question in return, but he decides to save his question for another time. Their playful exchange introduces a new kind of tension into their relationship: Wuyan is becoming more openly curious about his private life, while Nianqin is beginning to show interest in hers. Meanwhile, Wei Hao continues trying to persuade Xu Qian to return to their band for the upcoming graduation performance. Xu Qian refuses, saying that she does not have time to participate. Their complicated feelings and unresolved history make it difficult for them to communicate honestly. Wei Hao wants to repair the relationship, but Xu Qian remains reluctant to give him another chance. When Wuyan encounters Wei Hao back at the university, the two finally have an opportunity to discuss their broken friendship more calmly. Wuyan realises that her anger has been tied not only to the fact that Wei Hao and Xu Qian developed feelings for one another, but also to the way they concealed their relationship and allowed her to discover it through a painful incident. She begins to understand that her childhood bond with Wei Hao had led her to assume that their relationship would never change. Having reflected on her feelings, Wuyan tells Wei Hao that he should pursue Xu Qian honestly if he genuinely loves her. She no longer wants to stand between them out of resentment, and she encourages him to try to repair the damage between himself and Xu Qian. Her advice signals a shift in her attitude: she is beginning to accept that people and relationships can change, even when the truth initially hurts. Another disagreement arises when a couple expresses interest in adopting Xiaowei. Wuyan initially welcomes the possibility, believing that a loving family could offer the child stability, care and a permanent home. Nianqin, however, takes a more cautious position. His own childhood experiences in an orphanage have left him painfully aware that adoption does not automatically guarantee happiness. He raises concerns about the difficulties a child might face when adjusting to a new family and the emotional consequences if the adoption does not work out as expected. Wuyan is frustrated by Nianqin's pessimism because she wants to believe that Xiaowei can have a better future with caring parents. Nianqin's concerns, however, come from deeply personal experiences rather than indifference. Their disagreement exposes the difference between Wuyan's hopeful outlook and Nianqin's guarded understanding of family life. Both care about Xiaowei, but their contrasting histories lead them to different conclusions about what will truly protect her. Episode 5 brings Wuyan and Nianqin significantly closer. Wuyan's professional mistake teaches her to take greater responsibility for her ambitions, while the piano museum event and her telephone conversation confirm Nianqin's identity as Yi Jin. Their shared celebration of Xiaowei's birthday gives them a chance to connect naturally, and Wuyan begins to make peace with her complicated history with Wei Hao and Xu Qian. The episode ends with a meaningful disagreement over Xiaowei's adoption, showing how their personal experiences shape their ideas about love, trust and family.
