📖 Episode Synopsis

Filing for Love Episode 5 begins in the immediate aftermath of Noh Ki-jun and Joo In-ah's passionate kiss at the art studio. Neither of them knows how to behave normally afterward. In-ah quickly returns to her professional persona and tries to treat the kiss as a mistake that should never have happened. Ki-jun, however, cannot accept that explanation so easily. The kiss has changed the way he sees her, and he becomes increasingly frustrated by In-ah's determination to draw a strict line between them. When they meet at work, In-ah apologizes for what happened, explaining that she acted improperly as his superior. Ki-jun immediately challenges her explanation and reminds her that he was the one who initiated the kiss. When In-ah asks why he kissed her, Ki-jun gives her a straightforward answer: he thought she was beautiful. His honesty leaves In-ah visibly unsettled, but she insists that they must maintain professional boundaries because she is his boss and any relationship between them could create serious problems. Ki-jun is hurt by how quickly In-ah tries to dismiss the moment. He tells her that it is unfair to kiss someone and then simply apologize as though nothing happened. Although In-ah refuses to discuss her feelings, her reaction suggests that the kiss affected her far more deeply than she wants to admit. Their unresolved tension follows them directly into their next audit case. The Audit Office receives a complaint involving Haemu Group sales manager Do Min-woo, who was struck with a bouquet at his own wedding by one of his clients, So Yoon-ha. Min-woo claims that he merely used friendly and flirtatious language to maintain a good relationship with an important customer. Yoon-ha, however, believes that his behavior went much further and insists that there was a genuine emotional connection between them. During the investigation, the auditors examine Min-woo's messages with Yoon-ha. His texts are unusually affectionate and personal, but Min-woo insists that this is simply his sales technique. He regularly sends flattering messages to clients in order to encourage them to purchase more cosmetics. Yoon-ha interprets his attention differently, believing that Min-woo's behavior showed genuine romantic interest. The most important disagreement concerns a kiss. Yoon-ha insists that she and Min-woo kissed, while Min-woo denies remembering the incident. Ki-jun becomes unusually invested in the case because the question of whether a kiss can be meaningless reminds him directly of what happened between himself and In-ah. When In-ah tells him that a kiss can have different meanings depending on the circumstances, Ki-jun repeatedly uses her own words to challenge the way she has treated their kiss. In-ah orders Ki-jun to investigate further because a kiss that one person remembers and the other refuses to acknowledge could also become a workplace-harassment issue. Ki-jun and the team revisit the location where Yoon-ha says the kiss occurred. The nearby CCTV cameras turn out to be fake, forcing them to search for another source of evidence. The auditors eventually locate a chicken restaurant owner who may have footage from the area. His security recording provides the missing evidence: Yoon-ha and Min-woo really did kiss. The discovery confirms that Yoon-ha was telling the truth, but Min-woo continues insisting that the kiss had no romantic meaning. During the follow-up interview, Min-woo claims that he was too drunk to remember exactly what happened. Even after seeing the evidence, he continues describing the kiss as meaningless. Yoon-ha is deeply offended by his attitude and asks how something so intimate could simply mean nothing. Ki-jun finds himself agreeing with her, and his reaction makes it obvious that he is no longer discussing the case purely as an auditor. The situation becomes even more ironic when Min-woo later sees his own wife kissing another man. He becomes furious and nearly attacks the man. At the police station, his wife explains that it was simply a drunken kiss with a coworker and tries to minimize the incident in exactly the same way Min-woo had minimized his own behavior toward Yoon-ha. The hypocrisy forces him to confront the double standard in his own reasoning. Back at the Audit Office, Team 3 organizes a gathering partly to help Ki-jun and In-ah overcome their awkwardness. The employees end up discussing whether a kiss automatically means that two people are dating. Everyone has a different opinion. Some believe a kiss must carry emotional meaning, while others argue that a single kiss does not necessarily define a relationship. When In-ah arrives, the conversation immediately becomes uncomfortable. She tries to change the subject, clearly unwilling to discuss the matter in front of Ki-jun. He continues watching her carefully, realizing that the debate is really about the two of them. The professional tension between them becomes increasingly obvious to the rest of the team. After the gathering, Ki-jun gets an opportunity to speak with In-ah alone. He asks her directly what she thinks about their kiss and whether she truly believes there is nothing between them. In-ah admits that she does not hate him, but she still refuses to give him the answer he wants. Ki-jun remains dissatisfied and tells her that he wants to find out whether there could be something more between them. Ki-jun eventually gets into In-ah's taxi so he can continue the conversation. He asks why she keeps pushing him away whenever their relationship begins to move beyond the professional boundaries she has established. In-ah struggles to answer him. Their conversation becomes more emotional when they are interrupted by an unexpected visitor: In-ah's estranged father. Ki-jun immediately realizes that the man's arrival has deeply disturbed In-ah. She refuses to welcome him and tells him that he should never come back. Ki-jun quietly leaves them alone and waits at a convenience store nearby. In-ah confronts her father and makes it clear that she has no desire to rebuild their relationship. Her father suddenly collapses. Ki-jun and In-ah rush him to the hospital, where they learn that he has a serious brain tumor. The doctors explain that he has been undergoing treatment but has fallen behind on his medical payments. In-ah is shocked because she knows her father has a family but appears to have been abandoned by them. The hospital incident finally forces In-ah to confront memories she has spent years suppressing. Her father had been married when he became involved with her mother. He refused to properly acknowledge In-ah and warned her mother to stay away from his family. As a result, In-ah grew up carrying the stigma of being born from an affair, while her mother struggled to provide a stable life for them. In-ah eventually tells Ki-jun the truth about her childhood. Her mother became isolated because of the affair and the social judgment surrounding it. When In-ah later entered college, she believed that their lives could finally begin again, but she discovered that her mother had secretly begun working as a nude model at an art studio. At first, In-ah could not understand why her mother would choose such work. Her mother told her that modeling made her feel free, but In-ah interpreted it as another source of shame and pushed her mother away. The emotional distance between them remained unresolved until her mother died in an accident while trying to find In-ah and apologize. After her mother's death, In-ah eventually returned to the same art studio and began modeling herself. What once seemed incomprehensible slowly became something she could understand. By experiencing the work herself, she finally understood what her mother had meant when she talked about feeling free. The secret life Ki-jun discovered in Episode 3 was therefore not simply a strange hobby — it was deeply connected to In-ah's relationship with her mother and the grief she had carried for years. Ki-jun listens to In-ah's story without judging her. Instead of treating her with pity, he recognizes the strength it took for her to survive everything that happened. He becomes emotional while listening to her, eventually crying on her behalf because In-ah herself has learned to suppress her own tears. Ki-jun tells In-ah that despite the cold and intimidating exterior she shows at work, he believes she is actually a soft and caring person underneath. He tells her that he wants her to be happy and that she deserves a life in which she does not have to keep protecting herself from everyone around her. The emotional conversation brings them closer, but Ki-jun becomes heavily intoxicated. In-ah has to help him leave the bar and struggles to get him back to his apartment. Their intimate evening takes an unexpected turn when they arrive at his home and Park A-jeong opens the door. In-ah is stunned to discover that A-jeong is staying at Ki-jun's apartment. The woman she had never previously considered a serious romantic threat suddenly becomes a very real presence in his private life. Ki-jun, meanwhile, is too drunk to properly explain the situation. The episode ends with In-ah standing face-to-face with A-jeong while Ki-jun is barely conscious. After finally allowing herself to become emotionally vulnerable with him, In-ah is suddenly confronted with evidence that Ki-jun has another woman living in his home. The timing could not be worse, leaving their developing relationship in an uncertain and emotionally complicated position. Episode 5 marks a major emotional turning point for Filing for Love. The workplace investigation about whether a kiss can be meaningless becomes a mirror of Ki-jun and In-ah's own relationship. Ki-jun refuses to treat their kiss as a mistake, while In-ah continues hiding behind professional boundaries. At the same time, Ki-jun becomes the first person In-ah allows close enough to hear the painful truth about her family, her mother, and the trauma that shaped her. Just as their emotional connection reaches a new level, A-jeong's unexpected appearance at Ki-jun's apartment threatens to pull them apart.
