Mousetrap Episode 3 deepens the uneasy relationship between Je Moon-jae and Noja after their violent encounters. Noja remains suspicious of Moon-jae and does not fully believe that the man standing in front of him is the real Je Moon-jae. At the same time, Moon-jae has little choice but to rely on Noja because the criminal world surrounding his stolen identity is far beyond anything he can handle alone. Their relationship becomes a strange mixture of cooperation, distrust and captivity, with Noja treating Moon-jae as both a client who needs protection and a hostage who cannot simply be allowed to disappear. Noja begins examining Moon-jae's story more carefully. The information surrounding Moon-jae's disappearance, the missing friend Son Soo-hyun and the sudden appearance of another man using Moon-jae's identity raises too many questions. Rather than immediately accepting Moon-jae's explanation, Noja tests him and watches his reactions. Moon-jae's anxiety and panic make him look even more suspicious, but his knowledge of personal details that only the real Moon-jae should know keeps Noja intrigued. Moon-jae continues trying to understand how someone could have copied his entire identity so completely. The investigation points toward a sophisticated network capable of obtaining personal information, manipulating records and creating convincing replacements. The possibility that a person's face can be altered and then combined with stolen personal information becomes especially disturbing. Moon-jae begins to wonder whether the person who stole his life had help from specialists who could physically transform an ordinary person into someone who looks exactly like him. Noja's criminal contacts provide him with information that Moon-jae could never obtain by himself. As they investigate the people connected to the identity-laundering operation, they begin to see that the mysterious Rat is not acting randomly. Every move appears calculated, and the person behind the operation has anticipated how Moon-jae, Noja and the police will respond. Meanwhile, Detective Park Sun-yong continues pursuing the separate criminal investigation that is gradually converging with Moon-jae's identity case. The unidentified bodies and the disappearance of people without reliable official records remain central to his investigation. As Sun-yong follows the evidence, the connection between the criminal network and the identities being used by other people becomes increasingly difficult to ignore. Moon-jae's physical and psychological condition deteriorates as the investigation continues. He is already struggling with panic attacks and the trauma surrounding his parents' deaths, and now he is forced into situations where he cannot control what happens to him. His inability to prove his own identity leaves him almost completely powerless. Even when he tells the truth, there is no guarantee that anyone will believe him. Noja eventually decides that simply searching for the Rat is not enough. If the mysterious identity thief is watching their movements, they need to create a situation in which the Rat believes Moon-jae is vulnerable and makes a mistake. This turns Moon-jae into bait. Noja begins planning a trap designed to expose the person who has been operating behind the stolen identity. The plan forces Moon-jae and Noja into an uneasy partnership. Neither man completely trusts the other, and Noja continues keeping Moon-jae under his control, but their goals temporarily align. Moon-jae wants his name and life back, while Noja wants to understand the strange disappearance and identity operation surrounding the debtor he has been searching for over the past three years. As the trap takes shape, the danger becomes more immediate. Moon-jae realizes that the people hunting him are willing to use violence to keep the truth hidden. The line between investigator and target begins to disappear, while Noja discovers that protecting Moon-jae may put his own life and organization at risk. Episode 3 ultimately transforms the central conflict from a simple identity-theft mystery into a calculated game of pursuit. Moon-jae is no longer running blindly from one threat to another. With Noja beside him—although still treating him as a hostage—they deliberately place themselves in danger to draw out the Rat. Their trap is carefully constructed, but the episode makes clear that they may not be the only ones setting a trap. Someone else has been watching their every move, and the deeper they go, the harder it becomes to determine who is hunting whom.
