📖 Episode Synopsis

Perfect Crown Episode 6 continues at the royal banquet, where Grand Prince Yi-an and Seong Hui-ju have become the center of attention. After their dramatic appearance together, the two take the dance floor for a formal waltz. Hui-ju plays along with the image of a couple deeply in love, but she is still unsure what Yi-an truly intends to do with their marriage arrangement. As the dance comes to an end, Yi-an suddenly gets down on one knee in front of the royal family, the guests and the cameras. Using his late mother's precious ring, he formally proposes to Hui-ju and asks her to become his wife. Hui-ju is stunned by the unexpected public proposal, while Queen Mother Yi-rang and Prime Minister Min Jeong-woo are equally shocked. Hui-ju accepts, and the room erupts in celebration as the engagement becomes a public royal event rather than the private contract they originally discussed. Yi-an then takes the proposal one step further by asking the young King Yi-yoon to bless their marriage. Yi-rang immediately tries to stop her son from giving his approval, but Yi-yoon happily blesses the couple. With the King's approval given publicly, Yi-rang can no longer simply dismiss the engagement without creating a serious conflict inside the royal family. The announcement quickly spreads through the media, and the public reaction to the royal couple is overwhelmingly positive. Yi-rang refuses to surrender. She privately approaches Prime Minister Min Jeong-woo and asks him to use the Cabinet's constitutional authority to block the marriage. Jeong-woo refuses, arguing that the Crown and the Cabinet must remain united. With the King having already approved the engagement in front of everyone, overturning the decision would create an even greater political crisis. Yi-rang then confronts Yi-an directly. She warns him that she will not accept Hui-ju as his wife and questions his intentions toward the Crown. Yi-an responds with an even more serious threat. He reveals that he knows about the late King's altered will and the hidden wishes surrounding the succession. His words immediately unsettle Yi-rang because she realizes that Yi-an may know far more about the circumstances surrounding his brother's death than she expected. The episode flashes back to the late King's final days. Before his death, the King had intended for Yi-an to eventually inherit the throne. Yi-rang was furious when she discovered this and refused to accept the possibility of her son losing his position. She interfered with the King's wishes and destroyed the document that could have changed the succession. The later palace fire and the King's death left the truth buried, but Yi-an is now beginning to uncover what happened. Following the engagement, Hui-ju proudly shows off Yi-an's mother's ring during an interview. She openly talks about their relationship and explains that she and Yi-an first knew each other during their school days. When asked what changed between them, Hui-ju describes Yi-an as extremely protective, saying he treats her as though she could break like glass. Her comments create an image of a deeply affectionate royal couple, while Yi-an watches the interview and quietly smiles at her words. Hui-ju is delighted by the attention surrounding the engagement, but the royal marriage also creates problems for her family. Tae-joon and Da-yeong see the engagement as a possible advantage for Castle Group, while Tae-joon remains worried about the mysterious mechanic connected to Hui-ju's sabotaged car. The mechanic is dead and appears to have no close family, making it difficult to determine who hired him or why he was targeted afterward. Hui-ju's father also begins showing unexpected concern for his daughter. He asks Da-yeong's family to arrange for someone trustworthy to remain close to Hui-ju inside the palace. Although Hui-ju has spent years believing that her father considers her a burden because of her illegitimate birth, his actions suggest that he does not want to see anyone take advantage of her. Tae-joon explains that their father may dislike Hui-ju, but he dislikes seeing other people mistreat her even more. Meanwhile, Yi-an gives Hui-ju the ring but explains that it is a national treasure and technically belongs to the royal family. He tells her that after their divorce she will have to return everything connected to her royal status. Hui-ju begins taking the ring off, but Yi-an stops her. He explains that his mother herself never particularly liked the heavy ring and that his father was angry that she had given it to Yi-an. The conversation unexpectedly brings Hui-ju and Yi-an closer because both understand what it is like to be hurt by complicated family relationships. Hui-ju later returns to Yi-an's private residence, where the staff welcome her warmly. The household has already become accustomed to her presence, but there is a hidden problem: Queen Mother Yi-rang has placed a spy inside Yi-an's residence. Hui-ju's secretary Hye-jung decides to remain close to her and moves into the residence as well, giving Hui-ju someone she can trust while she adjusts to royal life. The next day, Hui-ju and Yi-an begin making practical preparations for their wedding. Prime Minister Jeong-woo joins them and suggests that a large royal wedding could help stabilize public confidence in the monarchy and provide an economic boost. Yi-an immediately notices how comfortable Hui-ju and Jeong-woo are together and becomes visibly jealous. Yi-an's jealousy becomes impossible to hide when Jeong-woo casually behaves like someone who has known Hui-ju for years. Yi-an reminds him that Hui-ju will soon be his wife. Jeong-woo responds that there is no reason to pretend in front of him. Hui-ju then admits that Jeong-woo already knows the truth about their contract marriage. Yi-an is furious that Hui-ju told Jeong-woo about their private arrangement. Hui-ju argues that there was no practical reason to hide the truth from him because they need the Prime Minister's cooperation to complete the royal marriage process. Jeong-woo promises to support them until their eventual divorce, but Yi-an remains uncomfortable with how much Hui-ju trusts him. Their argument leads directly into the creation of the formal marriage contract. Yi-an and Hui-ju sit down together and establish the rules that will govern their relationship. They agree that the marriage should last no longer than three years and that, after the divorce, Hui-ju will return everything she received through her royal status. However, Hui-ju refuses to surrender her title or rank, and Yi-an agrees that she can retain them as long as she does not create a public scandal or commit any serious wrongdoing. They also agree that everything related to their private arrangement must remain confidential. Neither of them is supposed to reveal the contract or discuss its terms with outsiders. The document makes the arrangement sound cold and practical, but their increasingly emotional behavior suggests that neither is as detached as the written agreement implies. Queen Mother Yi-rang later visits the couple during their preparations. Yi-an deliberately holds Hui-ju's hand in front of her, making it clear that he is no longer willing to hide his choice. Yi-rang attempts to unsettle him by bringing up his father and the late King's death. She reminds him of the expectations attached to his name and position, suggesting that his duty is to protect the stability of the Crown above everything else. At dinner, Yi-rang's words become increasingly cruel. She questions whether Yi-an feels guilty when facing the young King and even suggests that he may have wanted the throne for himself. Her accusations target Yi-an's deepest insecurities, particularly his complicated relationship with his late father and brother. Yi-an struggles to remain composed as the conversation turns into an attack on his character and his right to marry Hui-ju. Hui-ju refuses to let Yi-rang continue humiliating him. She takes Yi-an's hand and calmly ends the dinner, giving the excuse that the palace gates will soon close. Once they leave, she tells Yi-an that she will help him deal with everything once they are married. Although she originally wanted royal status for herself, her words now sound much more like a promise to protect the man she is supposed to be marrying for practical reasons. Yi-an admits that he does not want to spend the night inside the palace. The atmosphere has become unbearable, and he wants to escape the constant rules and scrutiny surrounding him. Hui-ju immediately offers him another option: her private yacht. The two leave the palace and travel to Hui-ju's yacht, where Yi-an finally experiences a rare sense of freedom. Away from the royal household, he can relax without worrying about protocol, cameras or family politics. Hui-ju tells him that tonight he can do whatever he wants, encouraging him to forget the restrictions that control his everyday life. Hui-ju even encourages Yi-an to break one of the royal family's food restrictions. She prepares food for him and watches as he enjoys something he normally would not be allowed to eat. Yi-an soon suffers from indigestion, giving Hui-ju another opportunity to tease him while also taking care of him. She uses a simple remedy to help settle his stomach, and their playful interaction reveals how naturally they have begun caring for each other. Later, Hui-ju takes Yi-an onto the yacht's deck. The quiet night and open water create a completely different atmosphere from the suffocating palace. Hui-ju stands near the edge and jokes about flying, while Yi-an becomes worried that she could fall. He reaches for her, and the two lose their balance together, falling onto the deck. Hui-ju ends up lying against Yi-an, and when she tries to move away, he holds her close. Their playful moment suddenly becomes intimate. Yi-an reminds Hui-ju of what she told him earlier: that away from the palace he could do whatever he wanted. He takes the words seriously and kisses her. This time, Hui-ju does not pull away. She returns the kiss, and the two share another passionate kiss on the yacht. Unlike their earlier public displays and staged romantic moments, this kiss belongs only to them. There are no cameras, no royal audience and no contract forcing them to perform. For the first time, their attraction becomes unmistakably genuine. The episode's epilogue returns to the night before the royal banquet. Yi-an had secretly asked Hui-ju to meet him so they could practice their waltz together. Their private rehearsal explains why they were able to move so naturally during the public dance. The scene also shows how much their relationship had already changed before Yi-an surprised everyone with his proposal. Episode 6 marks a major turning point for Perfect Crown. Yi-an transforms the arrangement by publicly proposing to Hui-ju with his mother's ring, while the young King gives them his blessing. Yi-rang's opposition exposes deeper secrets surrounding the late King's will, and Hui-ju begins to protect Yi-an from the emotional attacks of the palace. Their marriage contract remains strictly limited on paper, but their private yacht kiss proves that their feelings are becoming much harder to control.
