The Early Spring Episode 23 marks the beginning of Luan Nian's determined attempt to win Shang Zhitao back after their painful separation. Luan Nian arrives unexpectedly at the small tavern run by Zhitao's parents, where her father immediately recognizes him and treats him coldly because of the hurt he believes Luan Nian caused his daughter. Luan Nian refuses to leave and waits patiently until Zhitao returns. When they finally speak, Zhitao insists that their relationship is over and asks him to keep any future discussions strictly professional. Luan Nian transfers a large amount of money to her after ordering only a simple plate of peanuts and a drink, which further angers her because she wants to completely separate herself from the gifts and financial gestures connected to their past. Despite her resistance, Luan Nian drives her home after realizing that she is exhausted and should not drive herself. Later that night, Zhitao discovers him sitting outside in the freezing snow and drinking alone. Worried that he could freeze, she goes outside to confront him. Luan Nian asks whether she has a boyfriend, and Zhitao impulsively claims that Xing Yi is her fiancé. Their conversation eventually turns emotional as Luan Nian explains that he never considered their six-year relationship a way for her to advance her career. He also reveals that he had actually given her a very high score during the Specialist evaluation because he genuinely respected the professional growth she had achieved. He admits that although Zhitao was inexperienced when she first joined Lime, she eventually became the best employee he had ever trained. His honest explanation finally breaks through Zhitao's emotional defenses, and she begins to cry as Luan Nian embraces her. Zhitao then allows him to see Luke, the dog they both consider part of their shared past. Luke immediately recognizes Luan Nian and excitedly runs toward him. Luan Nian notices that Luke has become thinner and questions how Zhitao has been taking care of him. Zhitao agrees that Luan Nian can see Luke but establishes firm boundaries, asking him not to visit her parents or continue transferring money to her. Luan Nian later visits Zhitao's company and discreetly asks Fu Dong whether she is dating anyone, only to learn that her demanding work schedule leaves little room for a romantic life. Determined to support her without directly interfering with her career, he persuades Song Qiuhan to direct some regional advertising business toward Harbin agencies, creating an opportunity for Zhitao's new company. Luan Nian then begins deliberately appearing in Zhitao's life, arriving at her apartment with luggage and food for Luke. Luke immediately chooses Luan Nian's side, making Zhitao frustrated as Luan Nian jokes about being her boyfriend. He cooks for her and Luke, and Zhitao's parents unexpectedly arrive for dinner. Her father repeatedly tests Luan Nian by drinking with him, eventually developing greater respect for him after seeing his patience and manners. After Zhitao's parents leave, Luan Nian reveals that he was never as drunk as he appeared and insists on staying on her sofa because the nearby hotels are supposedly full. During the night, he enters Zhitao's room and sincerely apologizes for his past arrogance and for realizing his feelings too late. He tells her that his love for her has always been genuine and that he still hopes they can build a future together. Zhitao silently cries as she realizes that despite everything that happened between them, Luan Nian still has the ability to break through the emotional walls she built after their separation.
