📖 Episode Synopsis

As the Spring Festival approaches, Su Nianqin decides to take a break from work after spending three years almost entirely focused on managing his family's business. He instructs his staff not to disturb him during his holiday, determined to devote his time to Sang Wuyan and their future together. Their relationship has become much stronger since their reunion, and Nianqin is ready to take the next step. Wuyan continues working at the radio station in Tongcheng. One day, a fellow host suddenly suffers a stomachache, so Wuyan helps her get medical attention before stepping in to finish the broadcast. Nianqin has come to pick her up, but when he cannot reach her by phone, he worries that something has happened. He rushes into the station and finds her safe just as the programme ends. Relieved, the couple enjoys a romantic moment together, dancing to the music in the broadcasting room. Nianqin plans to accompany Wuyan home for the New Year and formally meet her mother. Although he is usually confident, the prospect of meeting his future mother-in-law makes him unusually nervous. Wuyan finds his anxiety amusing, especially because her mother has already begun treating him like a member of the family. Before they leave, Nianqin takes out a ring and tries to propose. Wuyan feels that the moment is not formal or romantic enough, so she does not immediately accept. When they arrive at Wuyan's home, her mother asks them to help prepare food for the New Year's Eve family dinner. Nianqin finds himself carrying bags of groceries and helping with the household preparations. Wuyan jokes that her mother seems more interested in finding a hardworking son-in-law than arranging a romantic occasion for the couple. Her mother briefly leaves to buy soy sauce, leaving Wuyan and Nianqin to watch the food cooking on the stove. Taking advantage of their time alone, Nianqin brings out the ring again and proposes. Wuyan playfully insists that he should kneel like a romantic hero in a film. Nianqin refuses to change his style and slips the ring onto her finger anyway. Although she teases him for being overbearing, she finally accepts his proposal. When her mother returns and notices the ring, she is delighted to learn that her daughter has agreed to marry him. The New Year's Eve dinner brings a large gathering of Wuyan's relatives. Nianqin is overwhelmed by the number of family members and their enthusiastic attention, particularly when they take turns offering him drinks. Wuyan notices his discomfort and tries to protect him from being teased too much. Despite the lively atmosphere, Nianqin gradually relaxes and experiences the warmth of a family celebration he once believed he could never have. The following day, Wuyan and her mother take Nianqin to visit her late father's grave. Wuyan's mother apologises for the harsh things she said to him in the past, especially when she believed that their relationship would hurt her daughter. Nianqin also apologises for the pain surrounding Wuyan's father's final days. Her mother understands that neither of them intended the tragedy and tells Nianqin that her husband loved Wuyan deeply. She asks him to respect Wuyan's choices and support her ambitions instead of expecting her to sacrifice her dreams for him. Nianqin listens sincerely and promises to care for her daughter. Later, the family goes to a karaoke room. Wuyan encourages Nianqin to sing, and his heartfelt performance impresses her. Her mother then chooses one of her late husband's favourite songs for him to sing. Wuyan and her mother join in, but both sing badly, making Nianqin realise where Wuyan inherited her off-key singing. The light-hearted moment brings the family closer and helps Nianqin feel accepted. After the holiday celebrations, Wei Hao visits Nianqin to offer New Year greetings. During their conversation, Nianqin casually mentions that Wuyan has gone to see Cheng Yin. Wei Hao is stunned because Cheng Yin died three years earlier in the elevator accident that occurred at the time of Wuyan and Nianqin's separation. Although Wuyan survived the incident with minor injuries, Cheng Yin suffered a fatal heart attack inside the dark elevator. Her severe heart condition had not been known to their friends beforehand. Wei Hao explains that Wuyan's continued conversations with Cheng Yin may be a psychological response to grief, loneliness, and the trauma of losing her friend. Imagining Cheng Yin's presence allows Wuyan to express feelings she cannot easily face on her own. Her friends have avoided confronting her directly because they fear that abruptly exposing the truth could make her distress worse. Nianqin is shocked by the revelation and begins to understand that Wuyan has been carrying an enormous emotional burden while trying to rebuild her life. Concerned for Wuyan, Nianqin goes to Cheng Yin's former residence to find her. He sees how emotionally attached she remains to her memories of her friend and chooses not to challenge her about what he has learned. Instead, he gently encourages her to return to Xiamen when she has finished handling her family affairs. Wuyan agrees that she will consider it, but she needs time to settle matters at home before making the move. Nianqin wants Wuyan to return sooner, partly because he misses her and partly because he worries about her emotional well-being. He conspires with Yu Xiaolu to tell Wuyan that his eyesight has been troubling him after the corneal transplant. When Wuyan hears the news, she becomes alarmed and immediately travels to Xiamen to make sure he receives medical attention. Nianqin's plan succeeds in bringing her back, although Wuyan insists that he must visit the hospital rather than dismiss the problem. At the hospital, the doctor examines Nianqin and warns that his previous heavy drinking may have affected his eyes after surgery. Although the situation does not prove that he is permanently losing his sight again, it gives Wuyan a reason to remain close and ensure he follows medical advice. Nianqin is relieved to have her beside him, but his decision to exaggerate the problem also reveals how afraid he is of being separated from her again. Wuyan eventually decides to stay in Xiamen and care for Nianqin. She returns to the apartment they once shared, marking an important step toward building their future together. Her decision is not simply a response to his trick; she recognises that she wants to be with him and that their relationship has reached a point where they must begin planning their life as a couple. Episode 22 closes with Nianqin and Wuyan engaged and preparing for marriage. Wuyan's mother has begun to accept Nianqin, and the family has shared a meaningful New Year together. However, the discovery about Cheng Yin introduces a serious emotional issue that Nianqin must handle carefully. As Wuyan settles into life in Xiamen, their next challenge will be balancing their love with her unresolved grief and his continued anxiety about losing her.
